link: https://vimeo.com/923298186Is it possible to expand the concept of a band to include several art forms? The Broom Company attempts such a collective creative process, taking James Joyce's Finnegans Wake and its associative language as a starting point. A multitude of scenes are loosely interwoven. With the Choreographic Platform Austria, the Broom company shares the trailer of their piece Volume 1.
The Broom Company is a trans- and interdisciplinary band project consisting of dancer Eva Müller, drummer Martin Brandlmayr (rooted in electronic music), and Peter Brandlmayr, who oscillates between science and performance.
Eva Müller, trained at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance and the London Contemporary Dance School, has been developing her own productions since 2000, preferably in interdisciplinary collectives. She experiments with participatory formats in which the stage space is opened up, and the audience becomes part of the performance.
Martin Brandlmayr works in the border area between improvisation and composition as well as at the interface between electronic and acoustic sound worlds. He played, among others, in the band Radian and collaborated with numerous musicians such as Howe Gelb, Christian Fennesz, David Sylvian, John Tilbury, and Otomo Yoshihide.
Peter Brandlmayr, trained geologist and photographer, gives lectures and holds exhibitions, installations, and performances. Additionally, he founded several experimental institutions oscillating between art and science: the Institute for Science and Research (IWF), the Pegasus Institute for Pataphysics (PIP), and the Institute for Idleness and Contemplation (IMK).
The performance was produced by OFFTANZ Tirol in cooperation with Osterfestival Tirol. Founded in 2013 as Tanz41, OFFTANZ Tirol consists of professional contemporary dancers, choreographers, as well as individuals interested in dance, art, and culture. In addition to conducting its own projects, OFFTANZ Tirol collaborates with local cultural institutions and cultural initiatives in other Austrian regions and European countries. The network sees itself as a platform and hub for the independent contemporary dance scene in Tyrol. The members who manage the productions of OFFTANZ Tirol artistically all have professional international dance experience but do not belong to any institution; they are freelance dancers and choreographers.
Osterfestival Tirol (based in Hall) is an annual cultural festival established in 1989, with a focus on both early and contemporary music, where dance and performance pieces regularly find their space. It was founded by Maria and Gerhard Crepaz and has been led by Hannah Crepaz since 2009. In its 26th edition, the festival will take place from March 15th to 31st, 2024 exploring the theme "er.schöpfung".
The performance will take place on March 21st at Salzlager Hall. Tickets can be obtained through Osterfestival.
